Letter 26.

Mrs . Johnson to Lady Susan.

Edward St . —

I am gratified by your reference, & this ismy advice; that you come to Town yourself with==out loſs of time, but that you leave Frederica be=:hind. It would surely be much more to the pur==pose to get yourself well established by marryingMr . De Courcy, than to irritate him & the restof his family, by making her marry Sir James. –You should think more of yourself, & leſs of yourDaughter. — She is not of a disposition to do youcredit in the World, & seems precisely in her pro::per place, at Churchill with the Vernons; – but you are fitted for Society, & it is shameful tohave you exiled from it. — Leave Frederica there=:fore to punish herself for the plague she has gi=:ven you, by indulging that romantic tender--heartedneſs which will always ensure her misery
